The S3510BMU33 USB 3.0 Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP allows you to connect a 3.5 “SATA III Hard Disk Drive (HDD) through an available USB port. The enclosure offers optimal performance with a USB 3.0 connection, but it is also backward compatible with USB 2.0 / 1.1 host connections.
Enhanced with the UASP (USB-Connected SCSI Protocol) protocol, this 3.5-inch SATA III enclosure performs up to 70% faster than conventional USB 3.0 connections, when paired with an available UASP-enabled host controller. Since UASP is a more efficient protocol than the traditional USB BOT (“Bulk-Only Transport”) protocol, latency is reduced, which significantly increases transfer speeds.
With support for SATA I / II / III and large capacity drives (tested up to 4TB), this HDD cage is compatible with any 3.5 “SATA HDD, and offers a significant increase in drives computer storage / backup capabilities.

Improved Performance with UASP
UASP is supported under Windows 8, Mac OSX (10.8 or higher), and Linux. In tests, UASP has a 70% faster read speed and 40% faster write speed compared to traditional USB 3.0 at peak performance.
At the same peak UASP also shows an 80% reduction in used processor resources.
Results were obtained using an Intel® Ivy Bridge system, a StarTech.com hard drive cage with UASP enabled, and a SATA III solid state drive.
