Startech PEXUSB3S42V

Adapter Card PCI Express PCI-E 4 Ports USB 3.0 UASP Dual Bus with Molex SATA Power

The 4-port PCI Express USB 3.0 card, model PEXUSB3S42V, allows you to add, to a PC with available PCIe x4, four USB 3.0 ports with two dedicated 5 Gbps channels. The independent port architecture enhances USB 3.0 performance by transferring data to your computer on two independent channels, allowing for faster file transfers.

When multiple devices are connected, traditional single-bus USB 3.0 cards share the maximum bandwidth between all ports. Since a second host controller chipset is used, the transmission channel is shared between two ports, instead of four. By dedicating up to 5 Gbps to each set of two ports, performance bottlenecks are reduced and the total available bandwidth is effectively doubled to 10 Gbps.

Enhanced with support for UASP (SCSI protocol with USB connection), this USB 3.0 controller performs 70% better than conventional USB 3.0 protocol when connected to an External Drive Enclosures (Note: UASP requires a supported operating system). By using a more efficient protocol than the traditional USB BOT (“Bulk-Only Transport”), UASP technology optimizes transfers by allowing multiple commands to be processed simultaneously, significantly increasing connection speeds for a less waiting time in your data transfers. For more details, see the UASP test results below.

For USB devices that require a lot of power, this USB 3.0 PCIe card includes an optional SATA or LP4 power connector that allows you to connect to the system power supply and get up to 900 mA of power per port for devices powered by the system. USB 3.0 bus (500 mA for USB 2.0). The USB 3.0 card also complies with the USB 1.2 battery charging specification (Apple mode only), allowing compatible Apple devices (iPhone and iPad) to be charged faster than a standard USB 3.0 port.

The controller card is compatible with USB 3.0 standards, and backward compatible with existing USB 2.0 / 1.1 devices. For added versatility, this USB 3.0 PCIe card is equipped with a standard profile bracket and includes a low profile / half height platen that allows installation in compact size computers.

Improved performance with UASP

In tests, UASP performed with up to 70% faster read speed and 40% faster write speed, compared to the maximum performance of conventional USB 3.0.

At the same peak during testing, UASP also showed up to an 80% reduction in the utilization of system resources.

Test results were obtained using an IntelĀ® Ivy Bridge system, StarTech.com USB 3.0 expansion cards, a StarTech.com box with available UASP, and a SATA III solid state drive.
