The Emotiv EPOC X is a portable, research-grade wireless EEG (electroencephalography) system designed for neuroscience, brain-computer interface (BCI), cognitive research, human factors studies, and real-world brain monitoring.

Unlike eye trackers such as Tobii Pro Spectrum or Tobii Pro Glasses 3 that measure visual attention, EPOC X measures electrical activity generated by the brain itself.

Overview

14-Channel EEG System

The headset records brain activity from 14 EEG channels:

  • AF3
  • F7
  • F3
  • FC5
  • T7
  • P7
  • O1
  • O2
  • P8
  • T8
  • FC6
  • F4
  • F8
  • AF4

Plus two reference electrodes using a CMS/DRL noise-cancellation configuration.

This arrangement provides whole-brain coverage across:

  • Frontal cortex
  • Temporal regions
  • Parietal regions
  • Occipital regions

Key Features

Wireless Mobility

The headset is completely wireless and supports:

  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Proprietary USB receiver
  • Mobile research environments
  • Classroom studies
  • Field experiments

Researchers are not confined to a laboratory.

Active Noise Reduction

The CMS/DRL (Common Mode Sense / Driven Right Leg) system helps suppress electrical noise from:

  • Power lines
  • Electronics
  • Environmental interference

Improving EEG signal quality.

Built-In Motion Tracking

The integrated 9-axis IMU includes:

  • Accelerometer
  • Gyroscope
  • Magnetometer

Useful for:

  • Movement studies
  • VR research
  • Human-computer interaction
  • Activity monitoring
