The PCI Express USB 3.0 card, model PEXUSB3S11, allows you to add an internal port and an external USB 3.0 port to a PC, through an available PCIe Express slot.
With a NEC PCI Express host controller chipset, support for the new USB 3.0 standard enables data transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps, as well as offering backward compatibility with USB 2.0 (480 Mbps) and USB 1.1 (12 Mbps) devices. The internal USB 3.0 connection offers the added benefit of compatibility with USB 3.0-based internal storage or front-bay hub connection solutions.
Enhanced with support for UASP (USB Connected SCSI Protocol), this USB 3.0 controller performs 70% better than conventional USB 3.0 when paired with an External Drive Enclosures (Note: UASP requires a supported operating system). Since it uses a more efficient protocol than the traditional USB BOT (“Bulk-Only Transport”) protocol, UASP technology optimizes transfers by allowing multiple commands to be processed simultaneously, significantly increasing speeds. transfer for less waiting time in data transfers. For bus-powered USB devices, this USB 3.0 PCIe card includes an optional SATA power connector that allows you to connect to the system power supply and get up to 900 mA of power per port for USB 3.0 devices (500 mA for USB 2.0).
Improved performance with UASP
UASP is compatible with Windows® 8 and Server 2012. In tests, UASP performed with up to 70% faster read speed and 40% faster write speed, in contrast to maximum USB performance 3.0 conventional.
At the same full performance capabilities, UASP tests also showed up to an 80% reduction in required processor resources.
Test results were obtained using an Intel® Ivy Bridge system, StarTech.com USB 3.0 expansion cards, a StarTech.com box with available UASP, and a SATA III solid state drive.
